Gaming equipment

Im interested to see what type of products people are using with there machines.  If you can post a pic or link that would be cool. I personally for some strange reason have been buying Razer products sincse way back when and they have worked pretty well for me.

Products I use:

Mouse- RAzer Lachaseis - very smooth and comfortable, Has a high dpi for all you crackhead gamers out there.  I want this new one: Razer Mamba

Keyboard- It says Logitech G15 but looks like the Logitech G11...Very Strange....I guess I have the hybrid

Mousepad- Razer Destructor- I will never use another gaming pad. Hands down the best I've used

Headest- Razer Megalodon- Just ordered this one today and can't wait to test this baby! My previous headset was the Wireless Logitech- it worked okay but crapped out in less than 6 months

If you have any other gadgets or recomendations on equipment please feel free to  share them with us.

Here's my desk at home:

I have a 24" Gateway HDMI/DVI monitor, ergonomic keyboard, the Fang game pad, Logitech G5 mouse, Razer eXactMat mouse pad, Logitech Z-5500 5.1 surround speakers, Somy MDR-V600 headphones, a cheap desktop mic, a clip-on fan to cool my mouse hand, and empty beer bottles.  My chair is a Hag Capisco saddle seat (the most expensive thing in my whole setup) and the desk itself is actually a mini-bar that I converted to a computer desk.

hah, Pacer I'm sitting in that same chair, here at work.  Very comfortable.  We also have some designed by Porsche, which are about $1500.

Logitech g18 keyboard

The lcd is my favorite part of the keyboard, it has a ventrilo plug-in so i can see who is in vent and switch channels and stuff. I got it used on craigslist for $50... pretty damn durable and the logi software for it is great.

Logi mx518 mouse

Pretty popular among fps gamers, i know a few "pro" players who use it. Only downside is that it doesnt have weights to adjust according to your preference, so may not be good for those who like heavier mice. The extra button positioning is great, have some weapons keybound to it for fast switching.

Logi G35 headphones

Most expensive gaming equipment i own... but definitely worth the premium. Sound is fantastic, microphone is stellar, and the software for it is loads of fun. Also great for movies. The buttons and the volume control on the set itself are handy. Extra long cord is great, its braided so it doesnt tangle. I googled around and read reviews on loads of headphones and ended up settling on these. Only downside may be that they are usb only... so you can't use with an ipod or stereo.

Don't hate the staples mouse pad.  I love it.  Maybe I'll ship one to umz.

Re: Gaming equipment

I upgraded my monitor to a 120 Hz gaming monitor:

It is a 3D Vision compatible monitor but I got it without the 3D kit because I only care about fps. After messing around for a couple of hours in ut3, here's my report:

IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE!

I have never seen anything quite like it. Online, the game is actually drawing at 90 fps all the time. Offline, it can usually maintain over 120 fps. It may actually be more than my brain can handle. Movement is silky smooth. It makes every map play like a HOLP map... but even better because all the little animations like gun recoil and ground shaking are super-smooth and hyper-active.

Will it make a significant difference in my game play... probably not since I'm not super skilled. Will it make a significant difference in my enjoyment of games... I definitely think so.

Highly recommended if you've got the scratch.

AnandTech Review

NewEgg

P.S. I hear BenQ is coming out with an LED backlit one soon.  Also, Viewsonic has one that, according to one review, has consistently lower input lag.

If you get the monitor + 3D Vision kit bundled it is $500.  The 3D vision kit comes with active shutter 3D glasses and a usb transmitter that keeps the glasses in sync with the monitor.

Right now, the best two 120 Hz gaming monitors are the ASUS and the Viewsonic.  The Acer and Samsung are a step down from what I've seen although they're not bad either if you're using them primarily for 120 Hz as opposed to 3D.

I occasionally use the 3D Vision stuff at work for stereoscopic 3D video production.  It works but I've only played the Burnout Paradise 3D demo.  I think you need a really beefy graphics card to maintain 60 fps at 1920x1080... and 60 fps is the most you'll ever get in 3D so it would be fun for more casual games but not ideal for competative/challenging games.

For sure 120 Hz is a luxury item right now... hopefully prices will come down.

Re: Gaming equipment

after using the Logitech G9x over a year now i can say it's the best Logitech mouse ever! i can't even touch those other Logitech mice... they are poopoo compared to this... as far as quality and comfort. i love the "claw grip" design... i can't imagine using anything else. also the price has dropped to $70 :)

i'm also liking the Razer Goliathus Control Edition mouse pad. just got a second one as a backup while i try to clean the other ;)

Re: Gaming equipment

i actually got a G500 too... it's garbage compared to the G9x. it just feels so cheap after using the G9x for so long.

i like the G5 more than the G500. the G5 has better design as far as the thumb and dpi buttons. although the G500 has some redeeming features....
3 thumb buttons, 2 scrolling modes, and dpi can be set to 5700.

still... the G9x is way better than both. the quality can't be beat :p

I haven't played with the G5, but it is older than the 500 isn't it? i didn't like the removable parts of the g9x when i read the reviews and saw it, i drop my mouse alot.. only about a foot onto a carpet floor, but still removable parts would most likely go flying.
true the dpi buttons are inconveniently placed, but i never use them anyways and the thumb buttons are just rite for my hand so i can't complain there.
also the same buttons and scroll modes and dpi i use only 800 & i don't need/want any more.

Re: Gaming equipment

yeah the G5 is older. i only use the textured grip with the G9x and have never had any problems with it popping off. it has a release button on the backside... it's kind of convenient for cleaning.

dpi placement is a big thing for me.. since i never change my dpi, i bind those buttons to useful actions in game. sniper and shock for UT ;)

i love the free scrolling mode... i use it when i'm not gaming. i'll never buy a mouse without this feature. the G500 and G9x do have the same scroll features but there's a huge difference in quality of the mouse wheels (and most of the other parts for that matter).

Re: Gaming equipment

a single gtx 580 will power BF3 on a 1080p monitor everything maxxed out no problem, however if you want to do 3x 1080 displays, you'll want 2x 580's

also if you have a mega rez 30" monitor you'll want 2x 580's

for the best gaming cpu today it's the i7 2600k hands down

if you are going with the 2500k or 2600k processor get a z68 motherboard

Get at least 8Gb of RAM - DDR3 - 1333 ram is probably plenty, but 1600 seems to be quite popular.

Re: Gaming equipment

the Sandy Bridge Chips (all of them) because the memory controler is inside the processor, and the processor outputs volts at 1.5 volts, more voltage required by the memory may cause computer instability if the processor does not provide the proper voltage required by the memory. therefore the recommended memory for Sandy Bridge chips is 1.5volts.
